Hi, we’re The Unofficial Archivist.
Being lovers of music, lovers of Americana, lovers of lists, we are especially passionate about the music releases of Brandi Carlile.
We have a significant collection of Brandi Carlile musical archive, including most releases, on vinyl and CD, and the variations of the releases. Where it gets fun are the deeper cuts, the small backing vocal credits, or random writers credits, the guest appearances, the live recordings. Hell, we can even chat about colored vinyl.
So we have created The Lists. A way to help us sort through the canon.

The Unofficial Archivist is not associated with Brandi Carlile, the business, the person or the band. The Unofficial Archivist is a way for us to catalogue existing material and provide perspectives on the music from a curatorial point of view for others to learn from and get passionate about collecting.
It’s not a discography of Brandi Carlile, nor a back-catalogue run-down. Well it’s maybe that, but it’s more. At the Unofficial Archivist we are looking at as many of the music releases as we can, but not on their own. We want to connect the dots and find the relationships and themes. If you want to go deep that’s where the Labyrinth comes in.

While most of the Brandi Carlile back catalogue (if not all) is available in a form on Discogs, The Unofficial Archivist is designed to delve deeper into releases, with further observations from us around releases, by categorizing them into The Lists. It’s not a commerical site and nothing is for sale.
A note on releases.
When we use the term releases, it can be interchangable with a single track on an album, or a full release. And sometimes a release is not an official release. It may be a bootleg digital file. We don’t condone the recording or selling of other peoples work. We may however discuss if it’s readily available. Discography, back cataglogue, list or labyrinth. It’s all the things.
A note on images
Release images are sourced from The Unofficial Archivist collection or from other public sources.
Other images are either The Unofficial Archivist own images or used with permission. All concert images are sourced from The Unofficial Archivist or used with permission. We never ever use images from third parties without permission. (and sometimes, yep we have used Discogs images…)
The lists.
The lists are the most interesting way to view the archive. We have created around 19 different lists that categorize every release we discuss. We may add to these in time, if we feel there is enough value or material to justify. Or if we just change our mind or find something new.
The topic labyrinth
We call it the labyrinth. Beyond “The Lists” is a way of delving even deeper into themes within themes. Venture in there at your peril.

All the streaming platforms have most of Brandi Carlile music digitally. However, there is nothing quite like holding a physical copy in your hand and reading the liner notes, looking at the art.
