In 1994, Tim and Phil Hanseroth’s band Ohnalim released a 7 inch vinyl single (33rpm not 45rpm) that featured 3 songs from the band. Released on their own record label Chutzpah Records (Chutzpah was incidently the first name of this band, with the third and final name being the Fighting Machinists.)

The band members at the time were Tim and Phil, their highschool friend Miroslav Stefanov and Erik Aho.

The vinyl came in a simple black and white printed paper folded in half, housing the 7inch. The label featured a kind of alien in spaceship. (prelude to Phil’s fascination wtih UFO’s?)

The tracks include

Now Your Safe
My Whole Life
Look Away

By his own self-admission in a later interview Phils says, “Most of our early songs were obnoxiously heavy.” These songs are heavy, with a touch of The Cure. You can read the full interview over at this Fighting Machinist‘s page on this site.

The songs were recorded at London Bridge Studios by Jon Plum – an assistant engineer who worked there. (He would later purchase the studio in 2005). He also added percussion on My Whole Life.

Side note: Jon Plum would go on to produce the early 2003 Brandi Carlile Band EP “We’re Growing Up” as well as co-write credits with Brandi on three tracks.
