If you don’t know, here’s the breakdown of this guest appearance:

Brandi Carlile has long shared her life long love of the movie The Neverending Story. In fact she, and Tim and Phil Hanseroth, all have matching Auryn tattoos from the film.

In 2016 she and Tim and Phil got the chance to record a cover of the title track to the film for musician and producer Shooter Jennings‘ Countach (for Giorgio) album. A homage and tribute to the great Italian electronic pioneer Giorgio Moroder. Shooter Jennings co-produced both By The Way, I Forgive You and In These Silent Days.

In the Guardian review of the album, the writer says, “His take on The Never Ending Story replaces Limahl’s featherweight voice with that of alt-country singer Brandi Carlile, who sounds infinitely more careworn: suddenly the song’s words sound wistful and strangely moving, rather than daft.”

In a fun fact, in 2020, Shoot Jennings released a small batch edition of the album on 8-track cartridge limited to 100 – as a nod to it’s retro past.
